One such treat to look for at WoW 2012 was the latest release of Octomorefrom Bruichladdich distillery, known by producing its peat-inspired whiskies in the oldest working, 130-year-old pot still; as they say: “it is in the oldest pots that the best soup is made.” The result is the experimental Octomore 4.2 Comus/167PPM (in plain English, peated big way, and they wanted you to know that); the five-year-old malt matured in French Oak/Sauternes casks and apparently peated to 167PPM (did we mention that already?). The whisky shocked even the most judicious peat fans; those who were initially skeptical about its dual nature (as the highest peated whisky in the world influenced by the high-end desert wine), are now propelling their best compliments for the “remarkable mouth feel,” “flawless marriage,” and “the beat well-tamed.” We’re sending our regards and kudos to Jim McEwan, co-owner and Master Distiller of Bruichladdich, and can’t wait to see at the 2013 Expo other “passion makes perfect” releases.
And to really be on the inside of the Expo, join the BEST DRAM WHISKY CLUB. The membership allows for the earliest admission to the Expo, an exclusive invitation to the Dram Club party held the night before, priority invitations and discounts to monthly tastings, a specialty whisky glass at the Expo, and other benefits we’ll be introducing later this year.
We’re delighted to hear from our returning Dram Club members as to how much value they see in the membership and how much they enjoy being among the first to enter the spacious tasting hall, sample the rarest specialty whiskies the first hour, and to chat with whisky experts in a personal, relaxed atmosphere. We encourage everyone to become a member of our most ardent whisky loving community, and will be working hard to bring more whisky-related perks and unique pours to satisfy even the most discerning palates.
