Our History

The Whiskies of the World Expo® features an incredible collection of whiskies, from exclusive single malts to world-famous blends, bourbons and artisanal spirits. An ardent connoisseur of of fine spirits will be delighted to find limited edition and handcrafted whiskies, as well as spirits such as rum, cognac, brandy and vodka. The Expo gathers many “Friends in Spirits”-people who enjoy sampling and nosing in a festive and highly educational atmosphere.

The Whiskies of the World Expo® was born in 1999 and has become an immensely popular festival, held annually in San Francisco. As one of America’s largest consumer whisky events, this celebration plays host to thousands of aficianodos, hundreds of spirits and high-end whiskies from artisanal distillers and independent bottlers and an internationally renowned speakers forum. The Expo receives overwhelming response from all segments of the spirits industry, as well as discerning consumers of superior quality spirits. The distinctive features and special focus of the Expo has been to educate the consumer as well as to support independent bottlers, the micro distillers and craft spirit producers worldwide.

Each year hundreds of superior aged distilled spirits are poured, many being exhibited for the first time. The Expo has a tradition of educating the consumer and presenting many truly handcrafted artisan spirits.  We honor whisky’s remarkable origin by treating our guests to live Celtic music.  The Expo hosts the Peninsula Scottish Fiddlers and the internationally acclaimed Bushmills Pipe & Drum Band. Both add to our lively and festive atmosphere!  Part of the attraction of the Expo is its novelty and creativeness; new components are added to the show’s program every year ensuring the experience is fresh for returning guests.

Each Expo features speakers’ forums presented by brand ambassadors, master distillers and other industry experts.  Guests are invited to attend these seminars to learn more about what goes into producing incredible distilled spirits.

A NEW ERA

2011 marks the second year Whiskies of the World®  is under the management team of Douglas and Lana Smith. As California residents, they have brought a strong local presence to the show and have increased attendance and brands. The Smiths’ event planning capabilities are sure to continue to improve the show.  Douglas brings to the Expo ten years of professional social event planning. Douglas has gained a reputation for the novelty, professionalism and excitement he brings to events. Lana Smith complements Douglas’ creativity and resourcefulness with her extensive business background. An MBA, Lana has traveled and worked in many European countries, and knows how to successfully run such endeavors. In a united effort, the Smiths’ will create a trendy and memorable event at the Annual Whiskies of the World® Expo.

Dram Club is a very exciting addition to WoW.

The members have private gatherings throughout the year and enjoy special treatment and perks, such as tasting tours, and happy hours. The customary Dram Club pre-party, held on Friday before the Expo in a popular San Franciscan “Speakeasy” bar, is especially loved and cherished by the Members.  The existence of the club is a perfect addition to the Expo, and makes it not just an annual event, but a unique social gathering where people have similar interests and can build lifetime relationships. Since the Expo’s new management is based locally, we plan to arrange added events and experiences for the Dram Club, and, of course, to explore more Whisky.

Our Dram Club Members are entitled to special offers:
